Join us for this 4 week introduction to the ancient pottery technique of Coil buidling!

Coil building is a traditional pottery method in which clay is rolled into long, cylindrical strips and layered one on top of another. The coils are then carefully blended and shaped to form various ceramic objects, including pots, vessels, and sculptures.

This technique offers endless creative possibilities, allowing artists to experiment with unique shapes, textures, patterns, and forms. The course is structured around tips and tricks to create even coils which will allow you to work intuitively to create shapes not possible with slabs or the potters wheel. You will have the option to keep the textured surface, or to smooth it to create polished final results.

Due to the small class size all levels are welcome! For intro students we will work on a simple vessel (eg. flowerpots, small pitcher, bowls, vase or sculpture etc.) and build towards more complex objects. Advanced students can bring there ideas (or send them before the class starts for approval.) Both functional or sculptural projects are welcome!

We will be working with clay in the first 3 weeks and then glazing in the 4th week. The course covers materials up to 10 lbs person. Firing fees will be added to any additional clay that is purchased. There is a 12 inch height limit.

Please note a $65 deposit is required to reserve your spot, the balance of $200 is payable on the first week of class.
